After years working in big tourism companies, we realized how mainstream tourism in Alesund had became. We decided to offer a different kind of experience, nourished by our everyday experiences. Mainstream tourism in Ålesund had become a checklist. Same routes, same photo spots, same forty-strong groups herded through Art Nouveau streets at noon.

We wanted something quieter. Tours nourished by the Ålesund we actually live. The bakery that opens at six, the lookout no one writes about, the fisherman who'll let you on his boat if you ask in Norwegian.

with us?

At Ålesund guided Tours, we’re not just guides. We’re locals who live and breathe Ålesund all year round. Unlike big tour companies that offer the same generic experiences across Norway over and over again, we focus only on Ålesund, crafting tours that truly reflect the city’s unique charm. That’s why we decided to do things differently- offering authentic experiences inspired by our daily lives here.

What makes our tours different? ▶
A lot of what you’ll find in Ålesund is built around the frenetic summer season and big cruise ships: tight schedules, large groups, big buses, drag-and drop experiences and very often, very little and poor connection with the tour guide. At Ålesund Guided Tours, we have decided to offer highly curated tours all year round, in smaller groups, with real stories to connect with your guide and enough time to actually experience and enjoy the Art Nouveau city of Ålesund. If you want to discover Ålesund and experience it like a local, you’re in the right place!
How big are the groups? ▶
Maximum 15 people. Why? To make sure everyone has enough space and time to enjoy the experience. To welcome questions, to allow natural conversations.
Do you offer private tours? ▶
Yes. If you’re travelling as a couple, a family or a group and want something fully tailored to you, your pace, your interests, reach out before booking and we would be happy to organize something with and for you. Private tours are also great for special occasions.
What languages are the tours offered in? ▶
We currently offer tours in English and French and we are working on expanding to Spanish and German. In the meantime, if you have a specific language request, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re always happy to find solutions!
How far in advance should I book my tour? ▶
Ideally, as early as you can, especially during the summer, as it is the high season between June and August. Because we keep our groups small, spots fill up fast. Booking a few weeks ahead is always a safe bet.
What should I wear and bring? ▶
Ålesund’s weather is never fully predictable. We can experience all weather throughout the day. We recommend bringing a waterproof jacket and comfortable walking shoes as some streets are uneven and steep. We’ll send you a practical checklist with your booking confirmation. As Norwegians say, “there’s no bad weather, only bad clothes”!
Is the tour suitable for children? ▶
Children are very welcome, as long as they’re comfortable walking on their own for the full duration of the tour. Our tours involve walking on uneven ground, cobblestone streets and in some cases moderate inclines. If your child is an enthusiastic walker, they’ll love it. If you’re unsure, feel free to drop us a message and we’ll help you figure out the best option.
